Kingdom
Come by Timothy McDowell.
Marcia Wood Gallery is pleased to announce “Kingdom Come”,
a solo painting exhibition by Timothy McDowell, and “PULL”,
an exhibition of a portfolio edition of intaglio prints published
by Marcia Wood Gallery with Timothy McDowell serving as Master
Printer.
Timothy McDowell takes inspiration from the infinite aspects of
nature. McDowell says that as a child in West Texas, he spent all
his free time roaming around in that landscape, and as an adult
has always felt a state of awe in nature. His imagery is an ongoing
investigation of nature, from tiny pollen molecules to towering
clouds. The new paintings and works on paper have expanded their
subject matter to include animals. McDowell states that he feels
his new paintings also serve as documents to the life forms that
are quickly vanishing from our environment; in a way, his painting
becomes an epitaph. McDowell’s compositions are masterworks
of seeming chaos, wherein images may float on the surface, like
graffiti over deep space, scale may be flipped – a one inch
woodpecker is next to a four inch cell - landscapes exist inside
landscapes. The underlying message is a reminder that all things
in nature are intimately related, and serve a single purpose, no
matter how random and independent they may seem.
Timothy McDowell exhibits across the United States and internationally
in galleries, museums and biennials, including the Nicolaysen Museum
of Art, Casper, WY, The Museum of Modern Art of Jacksonville, FL,
the Phoenix Museum of Art, Phoenix, AZ, the Chrysler Museum of
Art, Norfolk, VA, the 5th Cuenca Biennial of Painting, Cuenca,
Quito and Guayaquil, Ecuador, and the Biennale Internazionale dell’Arte
Contemporanea (Florence, Italy). His work is in numerous private,
corporate and museum collections including the Metropolitan Museum
of Art Prints and Drawings Collection, NY. Timothy McDowell resides
in Noank, Connecticut, and has been an instructor at Connecticut
College since 1981. |
