Lance Ledbetter is the owner of Dust-to-Digital, a record company that reissues
vintage roots and traditional music. In 2004 Dust-to-Digital received two
Grammy nominations for its inaugural release, a six CD gospel box set called “Goodbye,
Babylon.” Since then, the company has received three more Grammy nominations
and has had its releases featured in such publications as Billboard, Bon
Appétit, London Times, Mojo, Moscow Times, New York Times, Rolling
Stone, Spin, Washington Post and USA Today.
In 2008, The New Yorker featured Dust-to-Digital in its April 28th issue.
In the piece, Burkhard Bilger wrote "Ledbetter has an encyclopedic knowledge
of American blues, country, and folk music, and has released what many consider
the greatest gospel compilation ever made..."
In February 2009, Ledbetter won the Grammy Award for Best Historical Album
for the title “Art of Field of Field Recording: Volume I : 50 Years
of Traditional American Music Documented by Art Rosenbaum.”
For his contribution to the exhibition at the Marcia Wood Gallery, Ledbetter
has prepared a multimedia piece focusing on the research and music he has
compiled over the past decade. It will look at the past, present and future
of the music he loves.
