| Juan Perdiguero,
originally from Madrid, Spain, lives and works in New York, where
he is a professor at SUNY Oswego. A mixed media artist who brings
together concepts of photography, drawing, painting and printmaking
into his work, Perdiguero exhibits nationally and internationally
in numerous solo and group exhibitions at commercial galleries,
alternative artspaces and museums. His work has been extensively
reviewed by art publications and newspapers including The New York
Times, The New Yorker, El Pais (Spain), NY Arts and Art Voice.
Perdiguero expertly employs an array of innovative materials and
working methods to startling effect. Applying printer's ink to
photographic emulsion or collaged photographs, Perdiguero "draws" in
a reductive manner, wiping away at the ink to compose his images.
Strongly influenced by the Spanish Baroque, Perdiguero's strikingly
contemporary working methods nonetheless reveal a solid grounding
in classical tradition.
