For the first time, Atlanta’s premier and emerging gallery spaces are joining forces to present Atlanta’s first Atlanta Gallery WEEK! After identifying the need for a city-wide mechanism for promoting Atlanta’s modern and contemporary galleries and for reaching new audiences, 13 commercial galleries have banded together to present and promote the importance of Atlanta’s galleries to the city’s arts ecology.

The primary goal of the ATLANTA GALLERY WEEK is to jump-start, in earnest, wide-spread collecting of contemporary art in Atlanta. Atlanta’s galleries are integral to the livelihoods of hundreds of visual artists. We hope to spark interest in a city-wide initiative to educate young professionals and retirees, alike, about art collecting and how such collecting practices can enrich the Atlanta’s cultural community as a whole.

Marcia Wood Gallery

live event in conjunction with Atlanta Gallery Week

October 1, 2013, 6:30 - 8:30 pm

In cooperation with Flux Projects, ATLANTA GALLERY WEEK will provide engaging exhibitions, temporary installations and performances on each evening leading up to FLUX NIGHT on Saturday, Oct 5.

In the Surrealist spirit of FLUX NIGHT, and recalling the notion of "mental contagion" coined by Max Ernst, the gallery will host a spontaneous, collaborative, art making event as five acclaimed Marcia Wood Gallery artists join in the entertaining and performative creation of Exquisite Corps drawings during the evening.
While enjoying a tasty Surrealist cocktail, guests will also be able to drink in these artists highly desirable, modestly priced, works on paper that will be displayed through out the gallery.
Look for other surprises at this energetic happening - a celebration of creation, community and discover.

Also showing the recently completed video work of George Long, with collaborator Justin Newton, commissioned for the Art on the Beltline.

The exhibition "Openings" by Robert Sagerman will also be on view in the gallery through October 19.
