    OPENING RECEPTION | FRIDAY OCTOBER 6, 2023 | 6-9 PM

Clark’s pieces emerge from continuous experimentation with ceramics, encompassing both sculpture and imagery. She approaches liquid clay as if it were paint, utilizing thin porcelain sheets to portray images composed of fired clay fragments resembling pointillist dots or brushing on clay pigments to depict landscapes and dreamscapes. These porcelain-based images exist in a state of flux, blurring the boundaries between two-dimensional and three-dimensional forms. Stoneware structures often provide support to the delicate porcelain during the firing process, framing the compositions. Recently dream-like imagery intertwines with elements inspired by the Southern landscape where she was raised and currently lives. Clark states “Above all, my artworks pay homage to the Southern landscape, with Virginia Creeper, Pine, and the orchestra of the Southern Sky serving as integral characters in my ever-evolving narrative of Southern identity.”

Andrea Clark is an artist living in rural southeast Georgia.  Her work has been exhibited most recently at Latent Space in Chicago, Marcia Wood Gallery in Atlanta, and Eastside International in LA. She was the recipient of a 2022 Career Advancement Fellowship from the Center for Craft and has attended residencies at Township 10, Greenwich House Pottery, Anderson Ranch Arts Center, the Hambidge Center for Creative Arts, and the European Ceramic Work Center. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Kentucky School of Art and Visual Studies In 2013.

      Between Object and Image

Ann Agee, Andrea Clark, Michelle Carla Handel, Sacha Ingber, and Mariana Garibay Raeke 17 March - 15 May 2021
Marcia Wood Gallery is pleased to present BETWEEN OBJECT AND IMAGE Curated by Andrea Clark, this online viewing room features works by five artists: Ann Agee, Andrea Clark, Michelle Carla Handel, Sacha Ingber, and Mariana Garibay Raeke. This exhibition finds and examines the connections between the work where there is a prevalent shifting between two and three dimensionality such as applying sculptural ideas and materials to the wall or erecting a two dimensional plane into three dimensions. As we swipe through these works on our laptops and handheld devices we experience a constant teetering between the images on our screens and how the works creep toward and engage with two dimensionality. Ultimately the work buzzes within this liminal space.
