Triple Play: Angus Galloway, Stacie Rose, Ron Saunders

9 - 17 May 2015
Overview

Triple Play is a result of a spontaneous collaborative practice between Angus Galloway, Stacie Rose, and Ron Saunders. Inspired by the creation of the experimental space at Marcia Wood Castleberry, an exciting dialogue emerged between the three artists to discover how their work mingled and could be pushed into new territory as the result of the experiment. Playing in between and against each other’s imagery, color, and style, work was developed through both simultaneous production and alternate possession.

By nature this methodology included a fair amount of compromise, which is not common practice for individual artists. However, for this project, they adopted the assumption that finding common ground would lead them to more freedom and knowledge. With this in mind, their work did not collapse into a single perspective, but rather created a space to investigate true compromise and moments of perplexity in order push the dial closer to individual evolution.

In addition to their already developing collaboration within their separate work spaces, the three artists will also begin creating work within Marcia Wood Castleberry two weeks before the reception. Working together in the physical space and responding immediately to the art as a group will affect their collected efforts, enhance experimentation, and perhaps blur the lines between each artists’ studio practice. The setting aside of attachments is a requirement for true collaboration, and in some circles is the path to enlightenment. By relinquishing their typical studio tendencies, the artists of Triple Play are cultivating their personal practice while creating a collective aesthetic. In the end, the artists are the experiment, and the art the result.

For a live demo and a talk with the artists, please join us on Thursday, May 14th at 6pm.
